Sometimes intuition gives better results than logic.
She was 3 when I decided to wean her from the pacifier. We were being in Tokyo and she was making me crazy because, as many young children, she didn’t like the subway, the downtown, the malls. My poor experience made me think that the pacifier would have been the solution, but as she had rejected it (she was using it at night only at that time), I’ve thrown it in the bin in front of her eyes with a stagy movement. That night she fell asleep without the pacifier. She never had it again, nor asked for. The day after we were running in socks on the grass of the Shinjuku park, and we were having much more fun.
